Student feedback shows that personal and professional aspirations are as important to students as academic success. That’s why the Victorian Government invests in student employability and leadership development beyond the classroom. Along with the employment opportunities open to students through high-quality and industry-focused education and training – Victoria is a launchpad for global careers and entrepreneurship.

Victoria prides itself on the career possibilities available to its graduates, recognising the capability, knowledge and global perspective they bring. Through Australia’s post-study work rights and visa pathways, high-calibre international graduates have the option to stay and contribute to Victoria’s thriving and globally connected business and innovation ecosystem or pursue a career in their destination of choice.

Study Melbourne takes an integrated approach to growing career pathways for global talent, through collaboration with our international students and alumni, employers, professional bodies, and government partners. Support includes a suite of employability programs for Victorian international students – co-designed by students, for students – accessible in-person and online through the Study Melbourne Hub Victoria and an annual International Student Careers Fair. Through the Study Australia Partnership, Victoria contributes to a national approach to engaging employers on the benefits of hiring international students and graduates.

Study Melbourne leverages the Victorian Government’s deep industry connections onshore and offshore to build the profile and professional networks of Victoria’s international students and alumni. This is further strengthened by Victoria’s global alumni community, which plays an important role fostering international student and graduate employability and career development through sharing their post-study journeys, providing professional mentorship, and connecting students and graduates with industry ecosystems and career opportunities in Victoria and overseas.

Our global alumni community also deepens Victoria’s ties with the world, creating enduring people-to-people, knowledge and business linkages. The Victorian Government Trade and Investment Network is extensive, with offices located in cities around the world – including Melbourne headquarters. The network is committed to building connections now and in the long-term, including working with Victoria’s international alumni to bring together and empower a global community of leaders who can support the strategic objectives of Victoria and our international partners.
