Victoria’s education partnerships highlighted during the Governor’s visit to China

Victoria’s strong and enduring education partnerships across China including Hong Kong were showcased in a recent visit by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, reinforcing the value of alumni engagement, research collaboration and international education links.

In Hong Kong, the Governor hosted the Victoria Connect: Alumni Leaders Reception, bringing together Victorian alumni and key stakeholders from across the Greater Bay Area. The event celebrated the achievements of Victoria’s alumni community and strengthened people-to-people, institutional and industry connections between Victoria and the region.

In Suzhou, the Governor witnessed the signing of Monash University’s second 5-year agreement with Suzhou Industrial Park, reaffirming the important role of the Monash Suzhou Research Institute in advancing collaboration in research, innovation and transnational education. The partnership supports shared priorities in sustainability, advanced manufacturing, public health and talent development through the Southeast University–Monash University Joint Graduate School.

In Chengdu, the Governor joined IDP Education to officially open a new dedicated IELTS test centre, expanding access to trusted English language testing services in Western China. The centre supports pathways for students and professionals pursuing international education and global opportunities, while reflecting Victoria’s ongoing commitment to education mobility and international engagement.

At the Victoria-Sichuan 10-year anniversary celebration event, the Governor also witnessed signing of new collaboration agreements between education institutions in Sichuan and Victoria on student exchange, teacher training and curriculum development.
