Following the launch of Victoria’s refreshed international education strategy, Study with Victoria, engagement across India has ramped up, highlighting the strategy’s emphasis on global partnerships, transnational education and student experience. The Commissioner for Victoria to South Asia, Michelle Wade, represented the Victorian Government in Chennai, Manipal and Delhi, with education capability-building being the common theme across these engagements.

In Chennai, William Angliss Institute launched its India initiative with Skill Australia, establishing the delivery of hospitality skills assessments in India. Under the arrangement, experienced hospitality professionals can have prior work assessed against Australian standards without needing to travel to Australia. Assessment services of this kind allow existing experience to be formally recognised and demonstrate that Australian vocational and industry qualifications are valued in the Indian market alongside university awards.

In Manipal, the Commissioner attended the Manipal Institute of Technology International Dual Degree Induction Program, which welcomed its 2026 cohort across dual degree pathways offered by four Australian universities, including Victorian institutions Deakin University and Monash University. At the end of the 2+2 structure, students will graduate with degrees from both institutions within four years. The Monash pathway is supported by the Yes to International Students Fund and has welcomed an inaugural cohort of forty students in software and chemical engineering.

In Delhi, the University of Melbourne marked 150 years of its medical faculty, with the occasion used to launch a joint report on public health collaboration between Australia and India. The engagement reflects a research and clinical relationship developed over generations, and the report provides a shared evidence base for further collaboration.

Lastly in Hyderabad the Global Victoria Bengaluru Team was delighted to see the culmination of a relationship in the form of a joint industry and PhD program through Telangana Life Sciences, BITS Pilani, and RMIT University on August 4, 2026. The event was used as an opportunity to announce plans for an industry co-located Life Sciences & Pharma Tech Park at the BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus.
