Victoria welcomes formation of AIECA

Study Melbourne welcomed the formation of the Australian International Education Consultants Association (AIECA) in Melbourne on 17 June 2026.

The Hon. Steven Dimopoulos MP, Minister for Jobs and Economic Growth, delivered a keynote address at the event, acknowledging the important role education agents play in supporting international students and Victoria’s ongoing support for the sector and the state’s international student community.

Speakers Gary Li, Chair, AIECA; Fang Xinwen, Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Melbourne; Sunny Yang, Vice-President (Growth and International), Monash University; The Hon. Phil Honeywood, Chief Executive Officer, International Education Association of Australia; Mr Amit Shreewastav, Managing Director, Australian Insurance Services Alliance; Robert Parsonson, Chief Executive Officer, AIECA; and Seema Shah, Vice Chair, AIECA also spoke at the event, reflecting on the challenges facing the sector and the importance of the establishment of AIECA in creating a unified national voice for international education consultants and professionals enabling international student mobility and education exchange.

The AIECA is now Australia’s largest education agent association, representing agencies and stakeholders across many of Australia’s key international student source markets.International education is an important part of Victoria’s economy and future prosperity. Victoria proudly welcomes and supports students from around the world.

International students are valued global citizens who contribute to our local communities and enrich our state with global connections, diversity and skills that drive innovation and critical research across our industries.

Victoria highlights global education partnership through the BITS–RMIT initiative

At the BITS–RMIT Higher Education Academy Student Engagement and Networking Event held at The Capitol, Melbourne on 22 May 2026, Victoria highlighted its strong commitment to international education and global partnerships. Supported by the Victorian Government’s Yes to International Students Fund, the 2026 immersion program brought more than 100 students from India to Melbourne for a two-week academic and cultural experience.

Victoria’s education partnerships highlighted during the Governor’s visit to China

Victoria’s strong and enduring education partnerships across China, including Hong Kong, were showcased during the Governor of Victoria’s recent visit, reinforcing the value of alumni engagement, research collaboration and international education links. Highlights included the Victoria Connect: Alumni Leaders Reception in Hong Kong, the signing of Monash University’s second five-year agreement with Suzhou Industrial Park, the opening of a new dedicated IELTS test centre in Chengdu, and new collaboration agreements between education institutions in Sichuan and Victoria.

Study Melbourne visits La Trobe University

Study Melbourne recently visited La Trobe University’s Bundoora campus to meet students from PSB Academy Singapore participating in an immersive study experience in Victoria. Supported through the Yes to International Students Fund, La Trobe University is delivering projects that strengthen international engagement and enhance the student experience for its global partner institutions, including study tours, international business sprints and pilot training programs.
