Study Melbourne was delighted to join sector colleagues at the ITEC26 International Education Symposium in Brisbane on 3 June 2026.

Representing the Victorian Government, Caroline Hartnett, Director International Education and Study Melbourne, highlighted Victoria’s strengths as an international education destination as part of a panel discussion Competing on Place – How Australian Cities and Regions Win Global Students.

Caroline emphasised how student experience is central to destination appeal, with Study Melbourne differentiating its destination marketing by focussing on student experience and Victorian Government support for services provided through the Study Melbourne Hub. Alongside rankings, students and families consider safety, affordability, employability, community connection, post-study opportunities and a welcoming environment.

The panel also explored how larger cities with a strong global profile can serve as a gateway to broader consideration of regional campuses, and how interest in regional study can grow with clear communications about affordability, lifestyle and job outcomes.

Study Melbourne’s participation reinforced Victoria’s commitment to working closely with providers to promote a world-class, student-centred education offering.
