Official recipients of the 2026 Study Melbourne Inclusion Program announced

On Wednesday 25 March 2026, The Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs, the Hon. Danny Pearson MP officially announced the recipients of the 2026 Study Melbourne Inclusion Program (SMIP) at an event with international students, the AFL, North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs Football Clubs at the Huddle, North Melbourne.

The SMIP is a key commitment under Victoria's International Education Strategy, funding industry and student-led projects to address priority issues for international students, with a focus on mental and physical health, safety, employability, community engagement and cultural competency.

The AFL is one of 14 organisations that will receive a grant of up to $30,000 to deliver a project that supports and promotes the wellbeing of international students, enhances their experience living in Victoria and supports sector capacity building in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The AFL will deliver a program in partnership with the North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs AFL clubs, engaging up to 200 students in a culturally responsive program designed to strengthen international students' wellbeing, social connection and confidence engaging in community life.

The focus of other projects ranges from art and food workshops to road and water safety sessions, and professional development.

Since its inception in 2015, the Study Melbourne Inclusion Program has funded 178 projects to the value of $7.8 million and supported over 238,000 international students.

At the BITS–RMIT Higher Education Academy Student Engagement and Networking Event held at The Capitol, Melbourne on 22 May 2026, Victoria highlighted its strong commitment to international education and global partnerships. Supported by the Victorian Government’s Yes to International Students Fund, the 2026 immersion program brought more than 100 students from India to Melbourne for a two-week academic and cultural experience.
