What does it mean to be a Study Melbourne Ambassador?

Each year, we select 10 international students currently studying in Victoria for the Ambassador Program. Successful applicants get the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities and events to support Study Melbourne and the international student community.

Contributing to the community is a core responsibility for Ambassadors. During the Program, Ambassadors assist in planning and delivering student events and representing Study Melbourne at official functions. They are also asked to speak at events or moderate a panel discussion.

Additionally, Ambassadors are asked to share their experiences, feedback and insights with Study Melbourne, government groups and other external stakeholders. In this way, Ambassadors can advocate for their fellow international students and shape programs that will better meet their needs.

Finally, Ambassadors play an important role in driving engagement and growth across Study Melbourne’s media channels by sharing their unique story and perspective with others.

Benefits of becoming a Study Melbourne Ambassador

Becoming a Study Melbourne Ambassador offers a range of personal benefits including the opportunity to develop invaluable employability skills that will help you throughout your future career. These include collaboration, interpersonal communication, leadership and public speaking.

Being an Ambassador is also an excellent experience to include on a resume. It demonstrates to prospective employers that you are someone they can trust as an ambassador or employee for their company.

Ambassadors receive robust professional development to further enhance their skills and develop networks during the program.

Ambassadors also have the opportunity to meet many new people, from other international students to professionals in a wide range of industries. Not only does this help grow a strong professional network, it also helps you make new friends from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Who is eligible to become a Study Melbourne Ambassador?

All current international students at least 18 years old are eligible to apply. You must be enrolled in an educational institution in Victoria until the end of the current academic year.

All Ambassadors must have a Working with Children Check (volunteer category).

Lastly, Ambassadors are expected to always conduct themselves professionally and in line with the core values of our Program, which are:

  • lead with humility
  • exercise commitment
  • respect every person (irrespective of cultural, racial, religious, age, gender, sexual orientation and disability differences)
  • embrace diversity of the whole community.
