As community leaders and changemakers, Study Melbourne Ambassadors help create a rich and supportive community for current and prospective international students. They also help organise student events, programs and initiatives as well as contribute to our social channels, represent Study Melbourne at official functions, and share their experience, knowledge and insights.

The 2025 Study Melbourne Ambassador Team consists of 12 student ambassadors from 9 different countries and studying at 8 different institutions in Victoria. Each ambassador represents a voice of the community we serve across our programs and initiatives.

Purvang Dave, India

Purvang (He/him) is a Master of Business Information Technology student at RMIT University.
Originally from India, Purvang was drawn to Melbourne for its innovation-driven culture, vibrant student life, and, of course, its coffee. A storyteller at heart, he believes that every international student carries a story worth sharing—of courage, change, and discovery. Whether through writing, public speaking or casual conversations over coffee, Purvang loves bringing those stories to life. As a TEDx speaker and an active leader in AIESEC and the RMIT Student Union, he has mentored students, led initiatives, and built spaces where diverse voices are heard and celebrated. When he’s not connecting people or creating impact, you’ll find Purvang scribbling ideas in a notebook, lost in a bookshop, or wandering through Melbourne’s laneways, collecting moments that might one day turn into stories.

Sobin Dhanjal, India

Sobin (He/him), is a Master of Health Economics student at Deakin University.
From the serene mountains of Northern India, Sobin always sought new horizons, travelling far and wide in pursuit of quality education. He believes that networking is the key to growth and creating meaningful opportunities. Sobin’s passion lies in economic evaluation and developing economic models, particularly in understanding how policies influence health systems and expenditure. On securing the right opportunity, he aspires to pursue a PhD to further explore this field. Beyond academics, Sobin is a swimming instructor and an active student representative, engaged in leadership and advocacy. Australia has deepened his appreciation for volunteering and currently serves as the Mentor Program Support Officer at Deakin University. Sobin aims to develop public speaking skills and connect with people on a personal level, understand their needs, and work at the grassroots. He enjoys sketching, swimming, and exploring new adventures. His biggest inspiration is his father, whose relentless pursuit of excellence taught him resilience and determination.

Ngoc Bao Tran (Sophie) Doan, Vietnam

Sophie (She/Her) is a Master of Business Analytics and Marketing student at Deakin University.
Sophie believes in striving for good in every aspect of life, whether through study, work, volunteering, or personal pursuits. She takes pride in her active listening and empathy skills, understanding that sometimes, people don’t need solutions, just a listener. While she may sound like a natural fit for psychology, her true passion lies in creativity and social media. She is committed to leveraging digital platforms to bridge the gap between international students and the Australian community, fostering inclusivity, support, and empowerment. As a Study Melbourne Ambassador, she measures her success through the success of the students she supports, because when they thrive, so does she.

Felipe Augusto Fogaca, Brazil

Felipe (He/him), is a Master of Business Administration student at Asia Pacific International College.
With a background in Law and experience in international education, Felipe has been instrumental in guiding students from Latin America and Turkey on their journey to studying in Australia. Having arrived in Melbourne as an international student himself, he understands firsthand the challenges and opportunities that come with studying abroad. Now pursuing a Master of Business Administration, Felipe balances his time between academics, coaching and playing futsal, and immersing himself in Melbourne’s vibrant food scene. Passionate about personal and professional growth, he draws inspiration from the words of Seneca: "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity." As a Study Melbourne Ambassador, he is committed to empowering international students to reach their full potential by equipping them with the right preparation and access to the best opportunities Victoria has to offer.

Vishrut Goswami, India

Vishrut (He/him), is a Master of Construction Management (Professional) student at Deakin University, Geelong.
An architect-turned-design innovator from India, Vishrut is passionate about sustainable design and transformative construction practices. He aims to create smart, sustainable cities where exceptional design enhances communities. He believes that design holds the power to positively influence lives and the environment. Vishrut engages deeply with the local community and fosters connections between international students and the region. He has contributed to initiatives such as the Australian Red Cross and The International Student Lounge in Geelong. Vishrut is also a Mentor in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE), guiding students toward professional opportunities, and the founder of BuildHub, Deakin’s Construction Management Club. Awarded the Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s 100% International Scholarship, Vishrut has led national innovation challenges and contributed to award-winning projects. Guided by the quote, "The best way to predict the future is to create it," he continues to foster inclusivity, create positive change, and contribute to community growth both locally and globally.

Akiho Kurihara, Japan

Akiho (She/her), is a Bachelor of Commerce student at The University of Melbourne.
Passionate about global marketing strategies and cultural diversity, Akiho chose to study in Melbourne to engage with people from different backgrounds and perspectives. As an international student from Japan, she understands the challenges of adjusting to a new education system and cultural environment, which has driven her commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive international student community. Through her involvement in student societies and previous experience in fostering inclusivity, Akiho has developed strong communication and advocacy skills to connect international students with valuable resources, ensuring they feel welcomed and empowered in Melbourne. Beyond academics, she enjoys exploring Melbourne’s vibrant café culture and discovering new thrift stores with friends.

Ruva Mandizha, Zimbabwe

Ruva (She/her), is a Bachelor of Nursing student at Australian Catholic University.
Originally from Harare, Zimbabwe, Ruva embodies the vibrancy of her hometown. Her passion for public speaking began in performing arts and grew through high school debating and public speaking. Since arriving in Australia in 2022, she has actively contributed to the international student community as a Student Ambassador for both the City of Melbourne and ACU, as well as a Student Mentor. She is committed to supporting and inspiring students by sharing her experiences. With a strong passion for advocacy and community engagement, Ruva aspires to a career in Mental Health Nursing and, ultimately, Law. She believes in the power of empathy and positivity to uplift others, striving to create inclusive spaces where people feel valued and heard.

Augusto Sarmento, Timor Leste

Augusto (He/him), is a Master of Business Information Systems student at Monash University.
With a background in IT and business analysis, Augusto worked as an IT Junior Professional at the Ministry of Finance, Timor-Leste, where he contributed to financial system administration, budget planning, and project delivery. He also gained experience as a Data Analyst Intern at Woodside Energy, analyzing customer service data to optimize operations. Beyond academics and work, Augusto is dedicated to supporting international students. As President of the East Timor Student Association (ETSA) in Victoria, he helps new Timorese students navigate life and studies in Melbourne. He was also an active member of Timor-Leste Australia Alumni Association (TL3A) and Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), engaging in leadership and community development. A passionate singer-songwriter, Augusto also researches how open-source health information systems can improve healthcare in low- and middle-income countries. He believes technology, education, and community drive meaningful change.

Syelzom Tobgay, Bhutan

Syelzom (She/her), is a Bachelor of International Studies student at RMIT University.
Driven by her passion for cultural diplomacy, policy development, and intercultural dialogue, Syelzom hopes to contribute to strengthening the relationship between Bhutan and Australia. In Bhutan, she has led national advocacy campaigns to promote the socio-political inclusion of youth, supported children with disabilities, and founded the Toy Drive Initiative for students in rural Bhutan, however some of her most meaningful experiences have been simply connecting with people, sharing stories, and building community. As a big media enthusiast, Syelzom believes that the best way to understand the world is through stories—whether in films, music, or lived experiences. As a Study Melbourne Ambassador, she hopes to help other international students feel a little less lost, a little more at home, and confident in the space they occupy in this big and beautiful city.

Heidy Wandurraga, Colombia

Heidy (She/her), is a Diploma of Marketing and Communication student at Greystone College.
Melbourne has truly captured Heidy’s heart with its vibrant multicultural atmosphere, diverse culinary delights, rich art scene, and stunning natural beauty. The city’s love for a great cup of coffee reminds Heidy of her home country, making it a place where she feels an authentic sense of belonging. With a strong professional background in project management, finance, and administration, she has had the privilege of leading and collaborating on community-driven projects that foster growth, innovation, and connection. These experiences have further fueled her passion for supporting others and creating positive change, particularly for international students navigating new environments. She is excited to contribute her skills and experiences as a Study Melbourne Ambassador, and to provide guidance and support to fellow students. Through sharing insights, offering mentorship, and creating meaningful connections, she aims to help others make the most of their time in this incredible city.

Kaichen Xu (Courtney), China

Courtney (She/her), is a Master of Secondary Teaching student at The University of Melbourne.
Courtney first visited Melbourne as a child for a dance competition, sparking her love for this vibrant city. Since then, studying here has been her dream. She believes life isn’t a straight path but more like a wilderness—full of opportunities that challenge us to push beyond our limitations. This mindset encourages her to step out of her comfort zone and grow through new experiences. As a Study Melbourne Ambassador, Courtney is excited to work alongside others to plan and execute meaningful events that bridge international students together, fostering inclusiveness and supporting their adjustments to life in Melbourne. Outside of studying, Courtney loves the rush of trying different dance styles, sweating it out in pilates, and then rewarding herself with a milk tea — it’s her ultimate recharge!

Eva Zhu, China

Eva (She/her), is a Master of Teaching student at The University of Melbourne.
Eva is approachable, inquisitive and collaborative. She considers the Study Melbourne Ambassador role both an honour and duty. She enjoys helping people. As the voice of the international community and with the resources from Study Melbourne, she wishes to use her voice to inspire more international students to step out of their comfort zone and be empowered by their curiosity. Curiosity can drive students to have an open-minded heart, enabling them to connect with different cultures, discover Melbourne, embrace global perspectives, and be unafraid to try new things. When approaching collaboration, Eva believes diversity is not a hindrance but a strength. She also values a growth mindset. Through communication with people from different backgrounds, Eva has cultivated a wealth of knowledge beyond academia. She feels honoured to join the Study Melbourne community to learn more from her peers and other related parties.
