Student ambassadors enjoying Melbourne parklands

Managing stress at this time of the year is a big issue. It’s important to maintain a balance between study, work and life. Many students study 10+ hours a day. They’re afraid that if they don’t do enough, they might not be effective. But this isn’t the case.

Try to take regular breaks, go for a walk, see friends, do some cooking. These are great ways of managing stress and help you to produce happy hormones.

Make time to sleep. Social media instantly takes you elsewhere, it’s a pure escape. We all love to scroll on our phones. If you’re scrolling before bedtime, use the timer for 10 minutes to take control of your time.

If you find yourself feeling really stressed, go for a walk or run, listen to a calming podcast or speak to someone you trust and are close to.

Manage your multiple deadlines by enjoying small celebrations along the way. Reward yourself for every deadline, by going out with a friend, doing some karaoke, eating some nice food, or whatever it is you like to do. You’ve earned it!

Top hacks for right now:

  • Banana smoothies are great, bananas give you an energy boost to get through the day
  • Have a coffee or a matcha – it can help you feel ready to work
  • Go for a walk or run to refresh and get your happy hormones working
  • Study at the Study Melbourne Hub – you can eat and drink in the study space, and the students using the space help you feel socially connected

See Study Melbourne's guide to Support services if you would like to speak to a professional.
