Talent, innovation and collaboration took centre stage at two Victoria–Indonesia roundtables hosted by Study Melbourne and the Victorian Government Trade and Investment team in Jakarta on 8 July 2026, in partnership with Pijar Foundation.

Bringing together leaders from government, industry, academia and innovation organisations, the roundtables focused on opportunities to strengthen partnerships between Victoria and Indonesia across the creative and health sectors. Discussions highlighted the growing importance of international collaboration in developing future skills, advancing research and fostering innovation-led economic growth.

Representatives from leading Victorian education institutions participated in the discussions, including RMIT University, Monash University and its Indonesia branch campus, Deakin University and its joint Indonesia campus with Lancaster University, the University of Melbourne, and Melbourne Business School. Participants explored opportunities to deepen cooperation through knowledge exchange, workforce capability development, research and development initiatives, and industry engagement.

The roundtables also showcased Victoria's strong capabilities in both sectors. Melbourne is recognised as Australia's leading games development hub, home to around half of the nation's game studios and 22 tertiary institutions delivering games-related education. The city's established creative ecosystem continues to attract talent, investment and international partnerships.

Victoria's health sector also offers significant opportunities for collaboration. The state is home to 18 world-class medical research institutes and supports more than 30,000 medical research jobs. Victoria's health technology sector employs more than 51,000 people and generated A$3.8 billion in exports in 2024, reflecting its strength in research, innovation and commercialisation.

Participants agreed that Victoria and Indonesia share complementary strengths that can support deeper partnerships across education, research, industry development and investment. By connecting talent, expertise and innovation ecosystems, both regions are well positioned to create new opportunities that deliver long-term benefits for students, researchers, businesses and communities.

The roundtables reinforced the Victorian Government's commitment to strengthening engagement with Indonesia and supporting collaboration that drives innovation, economic growth and shared prosperity across both markets.
