Angela Sojan
Bachelor of Science - Computing and Software Systems, University of Melbourne
Angela Sojan, from India, has a passion for education and diversity in STEM. As an educator at the Victorian Space Science Education Centre, she has inspired thousands of students in subjects like physics and astronomy. Angela is a coordinator for the Girls Programming Network, where she advocates for gender diversity in computer science. She also serves as the diversity and inclusion officer of the Mathematics and Statistics Society at the University of Melbourne, fostering inclusive environments through events and initiatives. Angela's leadership in STEM education and her commitment to inclusion have made a significant impact on both local and global communities.

Ayushi Daga
Master of Public Health, Monash University
Ayushi has made a remarkable impact in Victoria through her dedicated volunteer work. She has provided crucial support to the Australian Red Cross during emergencies like the February 2024 Grampians wildfires, using her multilingual skills to assist Victoria’s diverse communities. Her leadership extends to roles with the Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation and the Iceberg Foundation, where she champions mental health and inclusivity. As a Student Ambassador for both Study Melbourne and Monash University, Ayushi has significantly improved support for international students and promoted Victoria as a premier study destination. Her passion for health equity highlights her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to community empowerment.

Lara Salaysay
Master of Environment and Sustainability, Monash University
Lara Salaysay, from the Philippines, has 8 years of professional sustainability experience, and advocates for climate action, international student welfare and youth engagement. As vice president internal for the Filipino-Australian Student Council of Victoria, she increased membership and fostered a sense of community among Filipino students. As an English Connect facilitator at Monash University and a Multicultural Bay Ambassador for the Port Phillip EcoCentre, Lara has empowered international students to integrate into Melbourne’s community. Her contributions to the Victorian Energy Jobs Plan and international climate forums make her a leader in environmental advocacy and youth empowerment.
International Student of the Year – Research

Ajmal Abdul Azees
Doctor of Philosophy (Electrical and Biomedical Engineering), RMIT University
Ajmal Abdul Azees is a PhD student from Sri Lanka, pursuing a PhD in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering specialising in neuroscience As a researcher at the Bionics Institute, Ajmal developed the world’s first multi-channel hybrid cochlear implant, potentially benefiting 700 million people globally. Ajmal has conducted pre-clinical trials at St Vincent’s Hospital with successful results and has shared his expertise at international conferences and research events, and mentored biotech students. As the co-founder and chief technology officer of MedTech startup Healovate, he leads development of innovative solutions for early stroke diagnosis and received a Study Melbourne Future Founders Venture Scholarship in 2024.

Karishma Don
Master of Business (by Research), Federation University
Karishma Don, a Sri Lankan student, is focusing her research on the circular economy and sustainable economic practices. Karishma is an active member of the Economic Society of Australia and Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions (BREAZE), where she contributes to community initiatives aimed at reducing emissions. As a Sustainability Officer at Warrnambool City Council, she leads sustainability projects and promotes environmental stewardship. Karishma has published articles in Australian and Sri Lankan newspapers, raising awareness about the circular economy and is actively involved in student mentorship and cultural activities at Federation University.

Samuel Widodo
Doctor of Philosophy (Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences) , University of Melbourne
Samuel Widodo is an Indonesian PhD student focusing his research on brain cancer immunology. With a dedication to mentoring, he supervises research interns and teaches undergraduate pathology and immunology students in laboratory subjects to investigate diseases and develop their scientific skills. Samuel's work has been cited in over 130 international publications and presented at various international conferences. He is a peer mentor for a first-year PhD student, guiding them in their academic journey. Outside of academia, Samuel volunteers at the International Christian Church Melbourne and serves as secretary of the Navigators Student Club, helping international students settle down in Melbourne.
International Student of the Year – English Language Training

Amaranta Avilés
Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English Preparation, Impact English College
Amaranta Avilés came from Mexico to study English in Melbourne. She has immersed herself in Victoria’s diverse cultures and actively engaged in community and environmental initiatives. Amaranta volunteers at the Islamic Council of Victoria, assisting during Ramadan, and participated in the Koorie Heritage Trust’s Aboriginal guide program. Her passion for the environment led her to organise bike rides in Melbourne, while her love for languages inspired her to lead a Spanish conversation club. Excelling academically, Amaranta was promoted to advanced English courses, enhancing her communication skills for her work in interior project management in architecture.

Mohammed Al-Aghbary
English for Further Studies, La Trobe College
Mohamed Al-Aghbary is a student from Oman who has been actively involved in diverse cultural, educational, and community activities. He volunteers to support disadvantaged families and organises cultural events for international students. As a university sports team member, he fostered interaction between local and international students. Mohamed led environmental initiatives, like beach clean-ups, and served as president of both the Omani Association and the School Radio Group, honing his leadership skills. Since studying in Victoria, he has made significant progress in English, advancing from elementary to confident communication, earning praise for his dedication and improvement.

Natalia Bejar
English IELTS Preparation, Impact English College
Natalia Bejar, from Peru, has secured valuable grants for small businesses and taught project management to university students. Her passion for mountain climbing led her to reach Everest Base Camp and inspired her to co-found Preservando, an NGO focused on environmental preservation. Preservando has helped donate over 60 kilograms of clothing to families in Peru and Nepal. In Victoria, she engaged with the Project Management Institute Melbourne to foster networking and collaboration. Her blog shares her experiences in Melbourne and promotes sustainable practices.

Chun (Jimmy) Han
Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery/Diploma of Hospitality Management, William Angliss Institute of TAFE
Chun (Jimmy) Han, from Taiwan, introduced a special Taiwanese menu at a local café, earning praise for promoting cultural fusion. Jimmy's culinary talents have earned him multiple accolades, including the Nestlé Golden Chef Victoria Regional Champion and the 2023 Golden Chef of the Year, Australia’s longest running and highly acclaimed competition for young chefs, where he achieved triple gold medals. He actively participates in international internships, culinary competitions, and community initiatives. Jimmy's achievements inspire fellow international students to pursue excellence in Victoria's vibrant culinary scene.

Khanh Ngan (Mei) Ho
Diploma of Hospitality Management, Sunraysia Institute of TAFE (SuniTAFE)
Khanh Ngan (Mei) Ho, from Vietnam is passionate about photography, culinary arts, and community service, and actively engages in capturing memories, volunteering, and organising events. Mei volunteers at the Blue Sky Temple, a hub for the Buddhist community in Mildura, and supports the migrant community through tutoring English and fundraising. Her dedication has earned her several awards, including the Australian Education Union State and National Photography Award. Aspiring to open her own vegetarian restaurant, Mei is committed to promoting healthy, plant-based cuisine and enriching her community.

Manal Lashinka Pandita
Diploma of Psychology, La Trobe College
Manal Lashinka Pandita, from Sri Lanka, has actively engaged in her community through volunteering and leadership roles. As a Student Group Leader at La Trobe College's Student Representative Council, Manal has been instrumental in organising cultural events and supporting fellow students. Her role as a Lifestyle Assistant at Roshana Care Group shows her commitment to enhancing the lives of elderly residents. With a strong academic record and a passion for psychology, Manal aspires to become a child psychologist, driven by her desire to have a positive impact on the future generation.
International Student of the Year – Regional

Juliet Bao Ngoc Doling
Bachelor of Science (Honours), Deakin University (Geelong)
Juliet is a British student born in Vietnam. Juliet volunteers at the Queenscliff Freshwater and Marine Discovery Centre, managing marine life and leading educational tours. She conducted research at the renowned Timothy Clark Lab in Queenscliff, gaining hands-on experience in advanced marine research. She leads monthly clean-ups through Beach Patrol 3220. Juliet also founded the Deakin Waterwatch group and the Deakin Ecological Collective, fostering environmental awareness among students. Additionally, she serves as a Nature Ambassador for Conservation Volunteers Australia, advocating for sustainability across the region.

Karishma Don
Master of Business (by Research), Federation University (Ballarat)
Karishma Don, from Sri Lanka, has made notable contributions to Ballarat and regional Victoria through her commitment to sustainability and community engagement. She actively participates in Ballarat Renewable Energy and Zero Emissions (BREAZE), driving local sustainability projects. Karishma founded the Cultural Diversity Club at Federation University, enhancing cultural exchange and inclusivity. Working at the Warrnambool City Council, Karishma leads initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and reduce emissions. Her research on the circular economy, combined with her community work, strongly facilitates sustainability efforts in regional Victoria.

Mai Khanh (Stacy) Doan
Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Deakin University (Geelong)
Mai Khanh (Stacy) Doan, from Vietnam, is the Major Events Lead at the Lounge International Student Centre, where she orchestrated over 70 programs enhancing international students' experiences in regional Victoria. Stacy is the president and co-founder of Deakin Vietnamese International Students of Geelong (DVISG) and a Community and Education Officer for Vietnamese People of Geelong (VPG), championing cultural inclusivity and community support. Her role as an Allied Health Assistant sees her advancing healthcare in regional areas through innovative physiotherapy and occupational therapy treatments for children and the elderly.
International Student/Graduate Entrepreneur of the Year

Muhsin Kizhisseri
Doctor of Philosophy (Engineering), Deakin University (Geelong)
Muhsin Kizhisseri, is a PhD student from India and his startup, Healovate, is focused on developing innovative solutions for human brain stroke prediction. His work has led to significant advancements in understanding the underlying mechanisms of stroke and has the potential to revolutionise patient care. Healovate was a Study Melbourne Future Founders Venture Scholarship recipient in 2024 and Muhsin's academic background of Master of Professional Engineering from Deakin University, coupled with his entrepreneurial drive and leadership skills, make him a rising star in the MedTech industry.

Preetham Akula
Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering, RMIT University
Preetham Akula, from India, is an inspirational entrepreneur and leader. Preetham's entrepreneurial journey began with Dropout Chaiwala, a successful food and beverage startup. He quickly scaled the business to multiple locations in Melbourne, generating significant revenue. Leveraging his engineering background and business acumen, Preetham founded Akula Tech, a pioneering space technology company. Within a short time, he secured $1 million in pre-seed funding and is preparing for the company's first satellite launch. Akula Tech has partnered with Australian telecom company VOCUS to tap into government and enterprise markets. Preetham champions mentorship, talent development, and industry collaboration for Victoria's startup ecosystem.
Ruwini Cooray
Doctor of Philosophy, Deakin University (Geelong)
Ruwini Cooray from Sri Lanka is a visionary entrepreneur with a passion for neuroscience and a commitment to making a positive impact. While pursuing her PhD she founded Neurogen with the aim of developing a groundbreaking microtissue brain implants to treat neurological diseases. She has received a Study Melbourne Future Founders Venture scholarship and joined the MedTech Actuator Accelerator program to fast-track Neurogen’s commercialisation and growth. With a focus on health tech innovation and a strong drive to improve patients' lives, Ruwini is making a significant contribution to the field of neuroscience and beyond.
Emerging Leader – International Alumni Award

Fazil Mohammed
Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology, Swinburne University of Technology
Fazil Mohammed is a distinguished leader and community advocate from India. Awarded the Emerging Leader Award at Swinburne University of Technology, Fazil has excelled in both community and industry engagements. As a Project Global Citizen Scholar and Study Melbourne Student Ambassador, he embraced diverse cultural experiences and collaboration. Upon graduating Fazil joined DuluxGroup as a Cloud Support Analyst. He’s now a Cloud Operations Engineer at PwC Australia. An avid content creator, Fazil’s YouTube content promoting the life of international students in Melbourne has received more than one million views. His initiatives make him a recognised figure in Victoria's international student community.

Hasan Muttakin
Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours), Deakin University
Hasan Muttakin, from Bangladesh, co-founded Networking Mindset at Deakin University, bridging connections between students and industry professionals. He was named Best International Undergraduate Student of the Year 2020 by the Council of International Students Australia. As co-chair of Young Engineers Australia Victoria, his skills in effective communication, project management, and team leadership have led to successful initiatives like the Young Engineers’ Australia Winter Ball. He now works as a Graduate Engineer – Civil Structures at Arcadis. Hasan’s journey reflects his dedication to fostering professional development, mentorship and collaboration in engineering.

Tarzon Budhathoki
Bachelor of Engineering Technology, Melbourne Institute of Technology
Tarzon Budhathoki, from Nepal, was elected vice president of Melbournepal in 2023, representing Nepalese students and youth in Victoria. His leadership approach focuses on advocacy, support, and cultural inclusion, through initiatives like the multicultural Dashain celebration and workshops with the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees' Association (SDA) Victoria to educate students about workplace rights. Tarzon was also a Student Ambassador for the City of Melbourne where he contributed to the International Student Wellbeing Hub Project. Tarzon's endeavours foster unity, cultural exchange, and empowerment within the Nepalese and broader community in Victoria.
