- The University of Melbourne ranks #1 in Australia (QS World University Rankings 2025, Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024) and is #13 in the world (QS World University Rankings 2025) making it Australia’s highest ranked university since the rankings began.
- Monash University is ranked in the top 50 at #37 (QS World University Rankings 2025) and RMIT, Deakin, La Trobe and Swinburne universities also rank in the world’s top 300.

World-class sustainability achievements
The 2025 QS World University Rankings: Sustainability showcases the outstanding sustainability achievements of higher educational institutions in Victoria, with the University of Melbourne securing the impressive #9 rank and Monash University close behind at #23 among the top 25 institutions worldwide. These rankings are a testament to the dedication of these institutions to prioritising sustainability.
Victoria’s universities also placed well in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2024, with RMIT placing #5 in the world and scoring highly for its efforts:

World-class subject performance
The 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject features 55 individual subjects across five broad subject areas.
The University of Melbourne (53 study areas) beat all other universities worldwide with their number of top 100 rankings across the entire 55 subjects (areas of study) analysed.
Monash University also featured in the top 100 globally across 45 different study areas.
